Summarize Your Wardrobe to Beat the Heat

Summer is fully upon us and that means rotating our clothes. Let’s make way for shorts and tank tops!

Out of Sight Out of Mind

The obvious move is to move all your sweaters to the back of your closet or dresser. We have all done that weather intentionally or it just happens naturally. If you don’t have anywhere else for them to go this will totally work. But the best move would be to get them out of sight completely. When you can see all of this stuff it is still taking up mental space thinking about them even when you’re not even remotely interested in wearing any of it until next season. Those under the bed plastic totes are great for this since folded is the best way to store off season items so they don’t get dusty or stretch out.

Getting off season items out of the way allows all the clothes that you’re wanting to wear to stand front and center. This way you don’t forget you have them and end up wearing half of your wardrobe on accident. Sometimes this is called a “capsule wardrobe”. This is just the idea that you are only able to see what you will be directly using.

Other Seasonal Items

  1. Rotating all of your shoes out of sight is a good thing too. We don’t need to see those heavy snow boots when you’re only interested in sandals
  2. Pull gloves, hats and scarves out of jacket pockets and place in a storage container together so you know exactly where to look next season. Bonus points for laundering them prior to being put away so they are ready to go when that first frost sneaks up on you in the fall.
  3. Hang jackets together in a coat closet or fold them up with the sweaters under the bed. making sure they have all the parts together before putting them away for the season is also important. A lot of winter jackets have hoods or inner puffers or vests that zip on and off.
  4. PJs and lounge gear sometimes get forgotten about, there’s no need to have warm sweatshirts and all your sweatpants available when it’s 90 degrees out. Keep your favorite of each out for that random chilly night and you should be good to go.
  5. Last but not least is athletic gear. being hot and sweaty is easy enough on it’s own without wearing the wrong gear for the season. Long sleeves and long pants can be tucked away for a few months, it’s just going to make your decision making easier.

Reminder

Nothing that you tuck away or keep out is concrete. If you’re missing an item you put away grab it back out. Or if you find you’re not wearing anything on the left side of your closet put that away too and maybe even thing or donating it or selling it. You’ll know if you put away something that would work for the season you’re living in, and don’t think about it or miss it, that it could be time to let it go.
