All or Nothing isn’t Serving you

There’s nothing in this world that’s 100% black and white and we don’t have to be all or nothing in any avenue of our lives. This is going to be short and sweet, can you spare 2 minutes?

Why it’s not serving you

All or nothing thinking backs you in to a corner with no flexibility and no options. So many of us are guilty of it even though we know that life doesn’t work that way. We constantly have to get creative to make the things we want in life to work sometimes. Say you’re starting a new workout program; you have been on track and doing great all week but now it’s Friday and you miss a day. Are you going to throw away a whole week just because one day got messed up? Give up and say well I tried but it didn’t work for me. No… You shouldn’t put that much pressure on yourself. Why? Because you’re setting yourself up for failure. Give yourself the grace to start fresh the next morning and get back in the game. No one is perfect and everyday doesn’t’ go as planned. Life loves throwing us curveballs and we just have to learn to either catch them or slide out of the way.

You might be able to maintain something for a season of your life but if you discover that it’s not serving you; the great news is that you’re able to change your mind. Just because that’s what you once did doesn’t’ mean that’s how you have to do it for the rest of your life. If you learn a better way of doing something you should start doing it the new way instead of working harder to so it they way it was once done.

It’s serving no one else either

At the end of the day you are only living your life for yourself. In order to be there for the other wonderful people in your life you have to be able to take care of yourself. There’s so many clichés, “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, “put your oxygen mask on first”. It goes on and on, but they are inherently true. Showing up as your best self and doing your best the majority of the time is what creates lasting change. Chances are you won’t remember the things you slightly messed up if the bigger picture is still well filled in. Perfection doesn’t exist and it’s unrealistic to hold ourselves to that unattainable standard. Let the gray areas be what makes your life beautiful. No one in your life is benefiting from you being more stressed and more tired. Take good care of yourself and let your best self show up.
