Spring is officially here in the PNW. The trees are starting to bloom, grass is turning green again and probably most of all…. All of the Pollen.
Spring cleaning at it’s finest, it makes you ready for that fresh start. Shaking off the winter and welcoming
Home
There are the basic house keeping tasks that don’t need much attention like dishes, vacuuming, dusting and what not. But there are the things we don’t think of as often that maybe we just need a reminder about.
- Rotate you wardrobe. Put thick, winter sweaters away and pull out lighter cardigans and bright colors.
- This is also a good time to take the lint roller and pill shaver to any sweaters that aren’t looking their best. You wont feel like doing it in the Fall when you’re quickly grabbing one out of storage because it’s the first frost and it’s all of a sudden cold outside.
- Donate anything that you didn’t wear once that season. You know that one sweater that has made it through 3 declutters and still hasn’t seen the light of day. It’s time to let it go.
- Store thick wool socks in the back of the drawer and declutter anything that has holes or thin spots.
- Take off all the pillow covers and bulky bedding and run them through the laundry.
- Giving your indoor plants some fertilizer or repotting if their over growing their homes.
- Moving appliances away from the walls and dusting floor boards.
- The not so pleasant task of cleaning out the drip tray under your fridge and vacuuming the vent.
- Cleaning your windows and dusting sills. It’s not exactly exciting but lends it’s self to that overall, fresh feeling.
- Dusting any higher shelves or tops of cabinets and appliances. It’s amazing how much ends up collecting there.
Auto
After a winter of using the heater cleaning the inside of the glass will surprise you with the difference it makes. Replace windshield wipers, shake the traction gravel out of your floor mats, throw away any trash and bring in things that are just hanging out in your car for no reason. Then it’s just a quick vacuum and a wipe down and you’re good as new!
Shed + Garage
After you’re done cleaning out the car, your garage and shed are a logical next step. Putting everything back where it belongs after a winter of quickly stashing things away and getting in from the cold as fast as humanly possible. Next step is a sweep out; getting all the dust and old leaves out of the corners. We like a good spider spray at this point. Everything is fresh and cleaned out, and that means disrupting some hibernating spider homes. Yuck!
This is hardly an exhaustive list but it’s certainly decent start that should help get the ball rolling. The hardest part is just getting started but it always feels so worth it in the end.
